This week is designed for those with little or no experience who would like to gain a broad knowledge of floristry whether for home use or future career. It is the perfect springboard for future learning but will give you sufficient knowledge to start your own small business. It is perfect for all ages and will cover colour harmonies and Principles and Elements of Design. Plenty of theory will be covered to give you the knowledge to design flowers for weddings, funerals, contracts and gifts. Business theory and costing will also be covered. Extensive tips of the trade will be given to help you with your future business.
Professional Floristry Course – 6 weeks – Commencing, TBC
Week 1 Arrangements – Handtied bouquet (various designs), round posy design, oval design, top table design, window arrangement/ fireplace arrangement, front facing arrangement and pew ends. This week will give you a sound knowledge of each of the most popular designs used in wedding, event and contract floristry. We will cover Principles and Elements of Design and colour harmonies.
Week 2 Bridal – Handtied bouquets, wiring techniques, buttonholes, corsages, headdresses. We will cover compact and loose handtied bouquets. We will cover various wiring techniques to enable you to make traditional buttonholes and corsages. We will also cover different style of headdresses. There will be a mock consultation to show you how to guide your bride through the process of choosing her bouquet and other designs. We will discuss the suitability of designs with particular dresses and which flowers work with different fabrics. We will cover Principles and Elements of Design and colour harmonies. Understanding colour in wedding work in vital and we will cover this extensively.
Week 3 Funeral – Single and Double Ended Sprays, handtied sheaths, loose garden style cushion, loose heart/wreath. We will cover traditional sprays and handtied sheaths. We will also cover a natural loose heart/wreath shape design and a “designer” garden style cushion. We will discuss the suitability of designs and we will also discuss the complexities of taking a funeral order.
Week 4 Advanced Bridal – Shower bouquet on an oasis holder, modern bouquets, advanced wiring techniques. We will discuss the suitability of this design for particular bridal gowns and also look at different styles of shower bouquets. We will look at modern continental bouquets and their uses. We will also make advanced headdresses and corsages. We will also look at wired bouquets and make a Victoria Posy which will give you a sound knowledge of wiring techniques. Colour harmonies will be covered in detail. This will give you a good understanding of colour which is essential for wedding work.
Week 5 Advanced Arrangements – Pedestal arrangements, garlands, cones. Continental arrangements will also be covered this week. We will make large arrangements and unusual designs and discuss their suitability. We will discuss Principles and Elements of Design to enable you understand and use the technique for these beautiful designs. These designs are particularly useful for contract and large event work.
Week 6 Advanced Funeral Work – Basing, modern continental funeral designs. We will cover the most beautiful interesting designs from a cross made of twigs and flowers through to traditional based wreaths/hearts. We will also look at bespoke funeral pieces which can be perfect for a personalised tribute. There will be a mock up funeral consultation to enable you to understand the complexities of taking a funeral order.
You will make each design covered in this course to ensure you have the knowledge to make each design after the course.
Duration 12 days (2 days per week over 6 weeks) - Price £4,000.
If you wish to attend 1 week of this course to cover a specific subject this will be £660.00.
The Six Week Professional Course will include refreshments and a light lunch.

The Professional Floristry Course – you can add 10 sessions of complete wedding experience by joining us on the set up of 10 weddings within 6 months of the wedding season – your choice of dates. For this invaluable experience the cost will be £1,000.
For a further £1,000 you can shadow Beverley for 1 month when you can attend bridal consultations (usually 3 per week), buying trips / visiting wholesalers, makeup work in the studio and attending 5 wedding set ups of your choice. This is the perfect way to gain experience especially if you want to set up as a wedding or party florist.
